There is a young lady here named Tonya (not her real name, but close), who
got into a drunken argument with her "boyfriend" and ended up stabbing him
in the chest with a butcher knife. Thrown in jail for attempted murder she was
facing the possible end of her young life (if her "boyfriend" died), or at least the
end of her freedom and her future.
Her mother and several other members of her family came to me for legal help.
I could only refer them to a company I knew, but I told them to put their trust in
the LORD who made heaven and earth. I told them to pray that an angel or some
other messenger would bring the gospel of God's peace and grace to that
young girl in prison. Then we prayed.
The "boyfriend" lived, all charges against Tonya were dropped and she was released from jail. I caught up with her a few days later in church. She said an angel had come to her telling her Psalm 23. She remembered the words and kept repeating them over and over as a prayer until she got out of jail.
You should see her now. She is the most vibrant, witnessing Christian I have seen
in a long time. Already she has led several of her relatives to the LORD. She
always flashes a big smile and a victory sign. Then she whistles loudly and dances
and sings to praise the LORD. She's just being herself. If any man, or young
woman is in Christ - she is a new creature. Tonya knows that.
