Torah: The Five Books of Moses

The first five books of the Bible are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.  These five books are collectively known as the Torah.  When the New Testament writers speak of the "law" they mean the Torah because the Torah contains all 623 of the laws God gave Moses.  In the days of Jesus it was the highest ideal of Jewish manhood to study the Torah.  The other half of being a good man was to have a trade.
