The Son of God Revealed - In You!
1. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. Jesus said,
If you love me, keep My commandments, and I will pray the Father and He will give you another Helper (or "Paraclete" - "One Who Speaks Above"), that He may abide with you forever. John 14:16
This is the most important verse in the Bible for understanding the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
2. When Jesus said the Father would give us another "Helper" or Paraclete, He meant "another Helper - just like Myself." The Holy Spirit is another "Helper" - the same as Jesus Himself. That tells us a lot. The Holy Spirit has the nature and character of Christ. He is the same as Christ. They have the same will. That's why (just a few verses later) Jesus said,
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:18
3. This means that the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness etc) are the character of Christ, and the gifts of the Spirit are the characteristics of Christ. Jesus healed people, cast out demons, raised the dead, prophesied, and did miracles. The Holy Spirit will do exactly the same. The Holy Spirit will behave exactly as Jesus behaved when He was here.
4. Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit! That's a big WOW! The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ - in you! That means He wants to use you to do the things Jesus did! He wants you to behave exactly as Jesus behaved!
5. Every person needs to have a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. God's Son needs to be revealed to them - personally.
6. Remember Peter? He saw God's power. He saw Jesus cleanse the leper, raise the dead, heal the sick, and open blind eyes etc. But He never knew how much Jesus loved him until one day Jesus filled his boat with fish. That changed everything. Peter was overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit. He fell at Jesus' feet crying out "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man!" God's Son had been revealed to him personally. Suddenly Peter knew God's love for him. He had a personal encounter with the Christ.
7. The Holy Spirit (Who is the Spirit of Christ in you), wants to use you to bring grace to people - to cause them to encounter the Lord Jesus Christ. That is evangelism. It is a face to face, toe to toe, eyeball to eyeball encounter with the living (and loving) Lord - the Creator, and Ruler of the Universe.
8. That is why we cannot be afraid of the Holy Spirit. He is our best friend. We need to abandon ourselves to Him completely - in obedience and faith.
9. The Holy Spirit is the voice of Jesus. He will not lead you astray. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, ...and they follow Me." (John 10:27) "Yet they will by no means follow a stranger." (John 10:5)
10. If you think you have heard the voice of Jesus telling you to do something - to show His love to someone - you have. So just do it. Jesus knows what every person needs. By the power of God's Holy Spirit Jesus wants to use you to meet that deep need - by an act of specific grace - so that person can come to know Christ - personally. They will know that God has touched them. Even if you think it's just a small thing - it may not be to that person. They will say, "How did you know?..."
11. That is why the Bible says...
How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace; Who bring glad tidings of good things. Romans 10:15
12. God wants to reveal His Son in you. (see Galatians 1:16)
P.S. The Spirit of Christ is in you and He will never forsake you. That means you are an ambassador of heaven. You are a representative of God's grace.
P.S.S. Every Christian needs to develop a listening ear (heart) so he can hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to him. God will speak to those who love people.
